Manor Lodge School Wireless Network Transformed to Support Immersive Learning

Manor Lodge is an independent primary school in Hertfordshire with over 450 pupils, a 26 acre campus, grade 2 listed buildings, and a focus on immersive learning including outdoor classrooms.

The School's 10-year-old mixed estate WiFi 4 network was unable to support the bandwidth required by the school to scale its immersive learning. In addition, without today's automation and agility, day-to-day management tasks were both complex and time-consuming, wasting IT budget.

Supporting the school's goals for immersive, interactive educational experiences for students relied on a totally connected campus with scalability, as well as a network that would not require additional IT budget to manage.

The Roadmap to Future Proofed Education

With Redway Networks' advice, the school assessed its priorities, needs, and selected Meraki as its vendor, enticed by the single-pane-of-glass management dashboard.

Our engineers carried out an on-site WiFi survey to assess the impact of the school's Grade II listed buildings, as well as the density requirements across campus.

Installation replaced the existing Netgear/Cisco network with 30 x MR36 indoor and MR76 outdoor WiFi 6 APs, as well as 2 x MS425 next-gen aggregation switches and 14 x MS25 edge switches with collapsed core.

The new network is optimised for high density school use, and is delivering highly reliable, fast connectivity across the school - including in immersive and outdoor classrooms. The student experience has improved, and new learning styles have been opened up to educators.

Network management has been streamlined; single click troubleshooting, automated tasks and a single pane of glass dashboard for the whole network. Security has also deepened, with separate SSIDs and policies for users, including guests, safeguarding internal school traffic.

A comprehensive managed support service from Redway Networks - in addition to the 10 year enterprise licence from Cisco - will ensure optimal performance for the solution's lifetime, continuing the school's progression.
