Leverhulme Trust Opens New Learning Styles Securely with Future-Proof Network

Having secured a Department for Education grant under the Connect the Classroom scheme, The Leverhulme Trust future-proofed its foundations for digital learning with a new network solution from Redway Networks.

Both schools under the trust had 10 year old legacy Meru wireless networks with mixed estate HP switches, which were unable to deliver the throughput and density required by today's education. The networks were also difficult to manage, and had no technical assistance in place. Issues with slow speeds and capacity limits were common in classrooms.

Trust-Level Network Management Provides Foundations for Agility

With trusts expanding across the country, unifying solutions and simplifying network management is key - as was the case for The Leverhulme Trust.

Unifying the networks has reduced complexity, streamlined the IT function, and given the Trust much more visibility and control - all from one dashboard.

10x WiFi Speeds Among Project Deliverables at The Leverhulme Trust

Richard Pycroft, ICT Manager at The Leverhulme Church of England and Community Trust commented that their new solution is "worlds apart from what we had before in terms of network reliability and speed. We now have a sophisticated, secure network which is the backbone to future learning".

Let's take a look at the project successes and outcomes on the right.

1

Both schools' networks have a single trust-level login and unified dashboard, removing the complexity of managing separate networks each with mixed estate hardware.

2

Future-proofed capacity, with a huge uplift in the user numbers the network can handle without compromising on performance.

3

10 Gigabit link switches, delivering 10x the wireless speeds the Trust had before.

4

Improved security, with different login flows and SSIDs for teachers, admin staff, students, and guests.

5

Improved uptime, capacity, and coverage, providing the connectivity needed for high-speed content streaming in high-density environments like classrooms.

6

The new network gave Leverhulme Trust the confidence to remove the wired networks in the IT suites, removing the cost of additional wired-compatible hardware.

"Both schools are now benefitting from 10x the wireless speeds they had before. This means we can have more users on the network simultaneously accessing high-speed content which has created more inclusive learning styles."

"Redway Networks went above and beyond to install the networks out of school hours, and with a large wireless infrastructure project like CtC, it was great to have a trusted and knowledgeable partner like Redway Networks."
